It closes with a metal snap closure situated under the front flap and there is a beaded hand strap to the back. These were called tango purses, some had small chains so they could dangle from the wrist and some had a small strap at the back so you could loop it through your fingers. Roses and leaves sit above stylised leaves in yellow blue and brown leaves on a light blue ground, all handstitched snugly together, which gives the purse  a good, firm, shapely form. The frame of the bag has a beautifully intricate relief rose and leaf pattern to it, with a double ball clasp. It has it's original fabric interior, that although worn is intact, I thought it better to leave it like this rather than replace it with a new one. A classic robust reptile skin/leather bag with a glossy finish, made up of stitched panels with an attractive secure clasp in goldtone and black skin, a sophisticated vintage style with lots of life left in it. The handle is also reptile skin/leather with goltone ends and the base is fitted with 4 goldtone 'feet'. Examination of the interior bag frame reveals the round 'ELBIEF ENGLAND' mark inscribed onto the metal. We regularly see the Elbief mark on the frames of British handbags dating between the 1950s and the 1970s. The interior of the bag has a zipped pocket and is tan suede, the suede is in generally good condition apart from the marks detailed below...

The tiny micro beads are all hand-stitched snugly together, which gives the purse  a good, firm, shapely form. The frame of the bag is a gleaming goldtone with some filigree work and the hoops for the handle have a small pattern engraved on their edges, attached to this is a long black hand-beaded strap, allowing this bag to be worn over the shoulder.  It has it's original black fabric interior, with a slip pocket. Lovely silver antique purse with an embossed decorated frame, ball clasp, pretty fringed edge and very fine mesh work. It is stamped on the interior with 800. There is a small ring  to one side of the purse to which you could attach a chain or thin ribbon. The 800 stands for 800 grade silver or 800 parts of silver per 1000 parts.  This standard of silver was heavily throughout Europe including France, Belgium and Germany for many years. Any vintage  jewellery stamped 800 is likely be European in origin.

This Whiting & Davis enamel "Alumesh" purse, dates to the 1940's. The exterior metal mesh is coated with off white enamel and features a matching chain. The interior is very clean and is lined with navy grosgrain fabric. It has an internal pocket and a makers tag stating "ALUMESH WHITING & DAVIS CO BAGS MADE IN USA". It has a fantastic industrial style circular catch, very unusual. Whiting & Davis started production in 1892 making mesh bags. During the late 1930s they started to manufacture enameled bags made of large bubbled mesh known as Alumesh. These durable bags featured both metal mesh and handles made of plastic along with high quality grosgrain lining.
