Lovely Deco floral dinner service from Alfred Meakin, that includes 3 graduating sized serving dishes, 2 tureens or covered serving bowls, a sauce boat, 6 dinner plates, 6 side plates and 6 tea plates. This set is full of colour, with a fresh floral design, that would look great on it's own or mixed with a white service to make more settings. It is a shame that this pattern is no longer made, as it is so pretty, but individual pieces can still be found at china search services. The tureens are a classic 30's shape with some great stepped mouldings to the lid and base,  delicate handles at the sides and a raised handle on the lid. This has a floral transfer pattern running around it with some hand-painted gold line-work. All 3 oval serving platters have a white ground with floral transfer work running around the rim building up into a small display in four places. A hand-painted gold line runs around the outer edge and an ochre line runs around the inner edge. The sauceboat is an unusual round curvy shape, with floral transfer running around the rim with a larger floral display to either side, with gold line-work around the rim and on the handle and an ochre line running under the pattern.  The plates have a floral transfer to the rim with 3 areas of a larger floral display, there is a hand-painted gold line to the rim and an ochre line to the inside.  Being an Essex girl, I just love the name too...

FAULTS:   There are some small surface scratches commensurate with age and usage.  1 of the tureens has a very small chip to the corner of one of the handles but this looks like it is original to the piece and has occurred pre-painting, as the goldline work goes over it. There is a small chip to the raised base of the sauce boat but this is not visible when placed on the table. 1 dinner plate has a round chip to the rim within the pattern. On 1 side plate there is a small linear mark in the inner section, it does not go all the way through the plate. On another side plate there is a linear crack that sits just under the ochre line but you cannot feel it through the glaze. A luxurious set of 6 'silveroid' coffee spoons, with scallop/shell shaped cups and early plastic coffee bean tails, in a velvet lined pretty grey box with front clasp. The spoons have a lovely warm patina  to them and are nice and robust. Silveroid is a special alloy consisting of 45% nickel, 54% copper and 1% manganese, this metal was fairly hard wearing and could withstand the rigors of everyday use  and was the best material for watch cases and flatware until the advent of stainless steel, it can also be known as German silver. A smart set of 12 silver plate grapefruit/teaspoons in a neo classical style, with pointed cups that are decorated in a relief and etched leaf pattern, thin stripes on the neck and an ornately decorated tail, in a material lined pretty green faux snakskin box with two front clasps. The cups are stamped with 12g and the makers mark. It is likely that these are French  as you can identify French silver plate by a number alongside a maker's mark. The number refers to the grams of silver used in the electroplating process. So, a spoon may bear the mark "12 G" or "12 Gr," indicating that 12 g of silver created the item. This set is as pretty as it is useful, a wonderful gift...

Lovely serving set from Lincoln pottery in the St.Kilda pattern, that would add style and character to a white table setting. Decorated with floral transferware and then handpainted with gilt highlights. There are three different sized serving platters, they all have some light crazing, but the largest one has a small chip to the underside. There are two identical tureens with ornate detailing and handles to either side and finally there is a sauce boat with a shaped rim and bulbous feel and although there is some crazing, there are no cracks or chips.

Fantastic retro 1950s two-tier plate stand from Lord Nelson Pottery in the 'Rio' design. This design features items from Mexico and was a popular theme at that time.It has a chrome- tone handle which unscrews for easy cleaning and storage and it comes in its original box.

An oval bulbous shape with unusual angular handles with raised balls, very tactile, it is decorated with gorgeous stylized blue flowers and leaves. There is a hole in the lid in which can be placed a serving spoon or ladle, making a perfect centerpiece for vegetables, stews or soups. The silverplate is by Hukin & Heath an English firm and has a modernist feel for this particular company, I suspect that this would have originally had a glass liner but it comes with a useful oval ceramic dish that fits the piece perfectly. This is now an elegant simple  piece that can keep food warm at the breakfast or dinning table...
