An extremely rare late Victorian Statuette for the Pears Soap Company. The statuette is a copy of a marble sculpture by the Italian artist Giovanni Focardi that was displayed at the 1878 Paris Exhibition. The scene depicts a woman scrubbing a young boy behind the ears who really doesn't look as if he is enjoying it very much!

An extremely rare late Victorian Statuette for the Pears Soap Company, titled "You Dirty Boy". The original sculpture was created in marble by Italian artist Giovanni Focardi and exhibited at the 1878 Paris Exhibition. Pears Soap purchased the rights to reproduce the sculpture for its advertising campaigns.

The scene depicts a woman scrubbing a young boy behind the ears who really doesn't look as if he is enjoying it very much!

The sculpture was reproduced in various materials, including plaster, terracotta, and metal, and used as a shop display in pharmacies and other retailers. This one is a plaster variant with its original paint in tact.

The base sees the title 'From the original Pears sculpture', '"You Dirty Boy" (after Giovanni Focardi)'.

A real piece of advertising history.
