Antique Victory-V lozenge tin with glass window panel to the front, dating to around 1920. The tin has two lithographed panels to the sides, one being a fantastic image of the companies trademark sailor 'Jolly Jack', the other being an image of Horatio Nelson's Battle of Trafalgar flagship H.M.S. Victory. It has a screw top tin lid.
Victory V is a British brand of liquorice-flavoured lozenges. Originally manufactured in Nelson, Lancashire they were devised by Thomas Fryer and Edward Smith MD in the mid-19th century and were initially made by hand to ensure that each sweet contained the correct amount of therapeutic ingredients; ether, liquorice and chloroform!
