A very nice pewter suff box with hunting scene of two huntsmen and their hounds. The embossed relief lid is in excellent condition, with a smart ribbed design to the sides. The base is marked 'U' 'FRIBOURG & TREYER, LONDON, MADE IN ENGLAND' 'L1457'.
Fribourg & Treyer was a British snuff manufacturer and retailer. It was founded by Mr Fribourg in 1720 at 34 Haymarket, London and included customers like King George IV and David Garrick. They closed doors in 1981, and the old shop is now a listed building.
