A Peak Frean & Co Biscuit Tin Lid with glass top display window. Original glass and fantastic aged patina to graphics.

These Biscuit Tin hinged lids, were originally supplied to shops, as both an adverting attachment in the shop, whilst at the same time providing a practical, and secure, see through lid for the bulk biscuit tins. Peak Frean would supply loose biscuits in large square tins and the hinged lid would be popped on the top so that the customer could see the biscuits within, and be able to open the lid and serve themselves from its contents.

James Peek and George Hender Frean founded the company at Bermondsey London in 1857. They moved to Clements Road in 1866 where the factory remained until 1989. Peek Frean and Co's biscuit factory gave Bermondsey the nickname 'Biscuit Town' for popular creations that included the bourbon and the Garibaldi .
