These slim leather buckets were used to carry charges on board Royal Naval vessels and would have been loaded with charges in the magazine quarters of a ship and then hoisted up to the onboard gun positions for use.  This rarer example has the side handle and fantastic copper studding to the rim base and side, with a brass screw cap nipple to the underside.
