An unusual Victorian Majolica ware Stilton Cheese Keeper. The top dome is decorated in an oak bark design with sprigs of green ivy growing up the sides and a styled branch handle. The base sees an oak leaf pattern with an entwined branch design.
The bell has obviously been very much loved over the years as there is a hairline crack that runs through a large area, this has been skilfully stapled as a repair.
A true survivor with a very different look. You either love it or hate it... We LOVE it!
COLOUR: Greens & Browns
COMPOSITION: Tin Glazed Earthenware
DIMENSIONS: (Dome Height) 28cm (Dome Diameter) 21cm (Base Diameter) 33cm (Base Height) 6cm
CONDITION: The Dome has a hairline crack that has been historically repaired with staples. There are some chips to the bottom edge of the base and some loss to parts of the glaze on both the dome and the base. These flaws do not undermine the piece, and we have tried to show them clearly in the photographs.
PERIOD: Late Victorian
