A impressive Terracotta Bust of the Right Honourable W.E Gladstone the British Prime Minister (1868), E.W Wyon maker's mark to the rear and dated 1882. There is a further mark to the underside.
Quite incredible detail in the modelling.
Edward William Wyon (1811-85) studied at the Royal Academy Schools from 1829 and exhibited his work there from 1831. In the 1850s he worked for Wedgwood, and for the Art Union, making reduced-size busts and other works in Parian porcelain.
His public works can be seen at Burlington House, London, Drapers Hall, London, Mansion House, London and The Criterion Theatre building which fronts onto Piccadilly Circus.
